| In October 2007 I spent ten days travelling by Greyhound buses and Amtrak trains through six states in south eastern USA. I'd heard about many of the places I passed through from listening to songs sung by the likes of Bob Dylan, Johnny Cash & Willie Nelson. I'd seen unforgettable photos of the deep south taken by Walker Evans in the 1930's and William Eggleston in the 1960's & 70's. You can't pass through such places without thinking of the history of the great depression, blues & jazz musicians, race riots and more recently the devastation caused by Hurricaine Katrina. It's a very special part of the USA. |
